Puppy Love

We're a spur-of-the-moment type of family. When the mood strikes to do something, you do it. Wake up on a Saturday itching to see some good fall foliage? Buy a couple plane tickets to see New York next month. Get a hankering for some pancakes? Run to IHOP then swing by the animal shelter and bring home a puppy for good measure. Tired of grown up duties such as work? Go see Man of Steel again in the middle of the day. You get the point.
Turns out it's not just husband and me who fly by the seat of our pants in this family. Tristan, brother-in-law, has that tendency too. Last Saturday he and husband went to a movie and on the way home called me to see if I wanted to accompany him to get a 7 week old dalmatian. Is that even a question? I mean, of course.
So we ventured out to a shady parking lot in a sketchy part of town to await the cuteness's arrival. Behold:

We got her home and were faced with a quandary. Brother-in-law is going out of town the next morning and won't be back until the end of the week. What to do? Duh - GIVE ME THE PUPPY FOR A WEEK!
I tell you what, there was never as proud a dog mother as I when we brought the puppy home and our (still quite a puppy herself) resident fur child, Indiana, was so sweet to  her. Though she still alternates between mothering the puppy and trying to eat the puppy, she plays at just the right level for a little one. The two have become quite a pair and, dare I say, are even starting to love each other. Oh the sweetness:

(Don't mind that nasty cesspool Indiana is drinking out of. That's what she prefers to keep herself hydrated.)
The puppy was immediately named Valkyrie. I a little bit felt like I had a baby. At the end of the day I felt accomplished if I managed to feed her (we're talking 5 feedings a day; this little girl eats more than her full grown foxhound cousin), get her to poop outside a few times, and get some good naps in. I even took her to the vet to get her good and healthy. I'm ready to be a mother, I tell you.

Welcome

A new start, a new blog. This last year has been a relatively transitional time for us so it only seems right to start a new place to chronicle our goings on.
Welcome to our world where I sometimes look like this:
